It all started a in 2002 when the founder - Gary Flack, who was at the time a dispensing optician in Barnsley sold the two practices he co owned and set up GoSportsSpex
The whole concept came about from a frustration, as an optician, of not being able to find decent sports eyewear and Prescription Sunglasses that wrapped around.
Starting with Prescription swimming goggles we have expanded our range to include Prescription Dive masks, Oakley specialized lenses and high curved wrap around sunglasses. With a lot of the prescription lenses made in house we feel we have gained the specialization of complex prescription lenses - even, on occasions supplying the manufacturers who are renound for their expertise!
Gary is a PADI trained Driver as well as an optician and combines his knowledge to both fields.
In August 2005 Gary was joined by Rodney Rouse - A keen cyclist and has been in the optical industry with Bolle for a couple of years.
With the success of the business we now employ 4 other members of staff from pack and dispatch to manufacturing goggles.
It was a busy couple of years as Gary went back to University to take a 4 year degree and diploma course and in Oct 07 qualified as an Optometrist. This now means we can offer sight tests as well as some great sport spectacles and sports goggles.
